Don't compare. Comparison is a thief of all joy!

A friend and I have started working out at a gym lately. The entire time, we'll compliment each other on how great the other is doing, all the while inwardly beating ourselves up.

Are comparisons making you discontent? Comparing ourselves to others can make us very unhappy. My friend LeAnne once told me, "Comparison is a thief of all joy."

This always stuck with me. Struggling off and on with low self-esteem my whole life, I almost constantly compare myself to other people. I see them as better looking than me, in better shape, happier, better life, wealthier, better clothes... the list goes on and on. These comparisons don't make my life any better. In fact, they make me sad and even more self- conscious.

I came across an Oscar Wilde quote the other day that I haven't heard in quite some time: "Be yourself, everybody else is already taken." It's going to be a daily challenge for those of us who have low self-esteem, but focus on the parts of yourself that you like. Work on accepting yourself for the flaws you don't have control over. Life would be incredibly boring if we were all the same. Be who you were made to be.
