Be a Gentle Spirit

When you look at popular celebrities, you can see our country is obsessed with the vocal people such as Kanye West, Mackelmore, and Miley Cyrus. Our society glamorizes being tough, vocal and badass, and see a gentle spirit as "weak."

Historically, this was not the case. Some of the biggest world-changers were men and women of a gentle soul. Mahatma Ghandi, a peaceful warrior once said, "In a gentle way, you can shake the world." He certainly did that when he lead the nonviolent Salt March that eventually lead to India's independence.

Mother Theresa, a quiet, gentle woman is considered one of the bravest, most giving women of all time. She dedicated her life to helping others. Jesus was also a peaceful person, bringing healing to those around him who were injured. He blessed children in a culture where kids were seen as invaluable beings.

I bring all these historical figures up to say, if you are naturally more quiet and gentle in spirit, that is a gift. Do not let anyone convince you to change. Many people will never be able to acquire gentleness. Often it is not the loud or brash who bring change, but the humble and gentle of spirit.
